Oratorio Choir of the Church of St. Mark

CANTORES SANCTI MARCI, the Oratorio Choir of the Church of St. Mark in Zagreb founded in 1988, continues the tradition of the celebrated Oratorio Choir founded in 1920. The objective of about thirty singers is to preserve sacred music of various eras and to promote Croatian choral music. 

The choir has won first and second prizes at various national (Split, Novi Vinodolski, Zagreb) and international competitions (Zadar, Neerpelt, Bratislava, Ohrid, Prijedor), including two golden medals at the European Choir Games in Riga, Latvia 2017. It has performed in about ten European countries and throughout Croatia at renowned festivals, such as Varaždin Baroque Evenings, Musical Evenings at St. Donat, Music biennale Zagreb, and Dubrovnik Summer Festival, as well as at the opening and closing of the Late Summer Music Festival Dubrovnik. 

The choir annually performs at about 10 full-length concerts, and on Sundays, it performs masses by international composers at the St. Mark's Church. It has collaborated with all prominent Croatian ensembles, such as Croatian Radiotelevision Choir, Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra, Zagreb Soloists, Croatian Baroque Ensemble, Dubrovnik Philharmonic Orchestra, and Croatian Chamber Orchestra, performing distinguished pieces by Händel, Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, Charpentier, Fauré, Bizet, Bersa, etc. It also nurtures the art of a capella singing performing a wide repertoire at around 30 concerts a year.
