HRISTOS TOLIS (Greece) is a filmmaker and musician. He was born and raised in Athens. He earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) and a master’s degree in Shipping from the University of Piraeus. Since 2010, he has worked professionally as a photographer, later expanding into cinematography and film directing. In 2013, he founded the production company Sub.Urban Images and Soundscapes, through which he has led a range of projects, including commercial work, music videos, documentaries, and personal artistic ventures such as photography-based installations (A Game of Power, 2013; Traces of Personality, 2014; It Could Be You – It Could Be Me, UNHCR, 2015).
He has directed documentary films for UNHCR (2021), IFRC (2018), and WWF (2019), and has also contributed to artistic productions as a technical director and lighting designer (Διεθνής Τόπος, 2018), in addition to his ongoing work as a musician.
In 2020, he directed his first short film, and in 2023, his documentary A Voice in the Night was selected for the official program of the Thessaloniki Documentary Festival. The same film received the award for Best Documentary at the London Greek Film Festival.
His short film Rea in August was screened at the Dalmatia Film Festival 2023 in Split, while the feature-length documentary Worship by Meletis Moiras, for which he served as Director of Photography, was presented in October 2024 at Athens’ most prestigious film event – Premiere Nights.
