Nikos KANELLOPOULOS
Music critic, writer, presenter

NIKOS KANELLOPOULOS (Greece) graduated in Management and Business Administration. For more than 30 years he worked in National Bank of Greece (PR and Internal Communications Departments). At the same time, he acted as a music critic, writing articles for numerous music magazines. He focused on music and audiovisual technology, writing CD/DVD reviews and reviews on books about classical music too.

In 1987, when the non-state radios appeared in Greece, he started the production of a classical music program called Classical Compact Discotheque on Athens 98.4 FM radio station. It took one year for the program to be honored for its high audience rates (1st in all of Greece). It continued until November 2020, although some of it can be found on Mixcloud platform. In 2021, the program continued on internet radio, broadcasting classical music along with comments. In addition to classical music, Kanellopoulos has produced other programs with an emphasis on jazz and Latin music.

Kannellopoulos is also proud of his 25-year collaboration with the large Athenian concert hall Megaron, for which he started recording a podcast in 2021. In his podcast, he presents interviews with personalities related to Megaron. For eight years, he collaborated with ERT 2 – the Greek State Television – where he often conducted commentary and presentation of classical music concerts broadcasts, live or not. Among them are the broadcasts of the concert on the occasion of Bernstein's 70th birthday (Boston Symphony and maestro S. Ozawa; 1988), the Three Tenors Concert (J. Carreras, P. Domingo, L. Pavarotti; 1990), the Israel Philharmonic concert conducted by Z. Mehta (1991), the J. Carreras concert in London's Royal Albert Hall (1994) and the New Year's concert of the Vienna Philharmonic (2022). During the 1990s Kanellopoulos worked on the educational and entertaining 26-episode TV program called Classics... and More. At the same time, he collaborated on the production of the biographical film The Great Caruso about Enrico Caruso.

From 1997 to 2000, he collaborated with the renowned art and auction center Christie's in Athens, where he gave lectures on the history of music, opera, musical instruments, etc. Since 2012, he has been giving lectures for the travel agency Syrigos Travel. Since 2005, he has been presenting the annual Viennese dance balls in Athens organized by the Association of Greek Students in Austria (SEFA), which named him an honorary member in 2007. 

In 2013, Kanellopoulos published a comprehensive book Johann Strauss Dynasty under the auspices of the Austrian Embassy in Greece focused on essays and biographies of great Austrian composers. 

In 2016, he became Program Consultant and author of printed materials for the International Ano Organ Festival in Syros.

Kanellopoulos is the owner of a portable digital recording studio that has recorded numerous recitals and concerts, including thousands of radio broadcasts, spots, trailers and advertisements.
