OBERTON STRING OCTET
Ensemble

Oberton String Octet (Austria, 2015) has performed widely throughout Europe to critical acclaim. Among the most important performances we find their debut at the Musikverein Graz, a performance at the Vienna Film Festival in Yekaterinburg (Russia), the performance celebrating the centenary of the Republic of Austria in Vienna’s Hofburg in the presence of President A. Van der Bellen, several concerts at the Steirisches Kammermusikfestival as the ensemble in residence, as well as appearances at the Sounding Jerusalem Festival.

Other noteworthy activities were the participation at the 22nd Music Night of Sarajevo Festival (BiH), the Euro Chamber Festival in Gdansk (Poland), the opening of the Carinthian Summer in Ossiach (Austria), the Kultur.LEBEN concert series in Bludenz (Austria), the Jeunesse concert series in Vienna, as well as the concert in collaboration with M. Schirmer at MuTh concert hall in Vienna.

Besides that, the Octet also continues to perform various concerts at their home University of Music and Performing Arts Graz, with several of their performances there having been broadcasted on Austrian national radio and TV over the years.

Apart from the octet, the Oberton performs as an Oberton+ Chamber Orchestra, which has given rise to projects with soloists such as M. Schirmer, E. O. Huetter and J. Čepoveckis.

Made up of eight young musicians from around the world, the ensemble finds great joy in the challenges and possibilities that come with being in a rather unusual formation of a chamber music ensemble. From standard works of the genre`s repertoire to distinctive arrangements, to rarely performed works and world premieres, the ensemble continues to diversify the endless possibilities that eight string instruments have to offer. As a culturally diverse ensemble, the young musicians are united by common goals: to produce the highest level of concerts on local and international stages, as well as to promote the idea of unity through music.

The result of this idea is a project called Homeland Melodies, in which they arrange, record and perform popular and traditional melodies from around the world. The ensemble also performs at many charity events, among them the cooperation with the Lions Club, as well as with Caritas in Bludenz, where the money for orphans suffering from AIDS in Ethiopia was collected.

Another focus of the ensemble is the musical education of young people, thus, in order to arouse their interest in classical music, they regularly visit primary schools, secondary and music schools.
